VETPARTNERS marked Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month (VNAM) by welcoming a special guest to meet some of the group’s Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs).
BVNA Senior Vice President Lyndsay Hughes visited VetPartners’ headquarters in York, where she met with veterinary nurses from practices across the group, as well as members of the central support team, during a roundtable discussion.
The VNAM campaign is led each year by the BVNA, with the aim of raising awareness of the significant contributions made by veterinary nurses to animal health and welfare.
The event was organised to celebrate VNAM and highlight the vital role veterinary nurses play within VetPartners. It also showcased the ways in which the group supports their professional growth and career development, both in practice and within its support teams.
They also shared an update on the work carried out by the BVNA for veterinary nurses on the reform of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
VetPartners Business Support Manager Jo Oakden chaired the discussion which was attended by eight small animal and equine veterinary nurses, along with VetPartners CEO Jo Malone and VetPartners UK Managing Director Tim Shearman.
Jo Oakden said: “We wanted to highlight the vital role our RVNs play in making VetPartners a great place to work, whether they’re in our practices or supporting teams behind the scenes. They are central to delivering an outstanding client experience and the highest standards of patient care.
“Our RVNs bring immense value to our practices, and it’s important we continue to understand how the role can evolve, so they can have an even greater influence in practice.”
Lyndsay said: “It is really important to give veterinary nurses a platform to be heard, to showcase the incredible work they are doing in their practices, and to collaborate with others.
“What was particularly impressive was that senior leaders at VetPartners took the time to attend the roundtable, listen to what nurses had to say, and demonstrate their support for the profession.
“Veterinary nurses can sometimes feel there are limited opportunities available to them, but it was inspiring to see VetPartners’ willingness to support nurses with drive and ambition to progress – whether that’s within practice or as part of the central team.
“Listening to such a passionate group of nurses, all eager to share ideas and champion the profession, makes me feel incredibly optimistic about the future of veterinary nursing.”
The RVNs attending were: Jenny Johnson (Westway Vets), Emily Philpot (Uplands Way Vets), Victoria Fyfe (VetPartners Practice Standards Manager), Jenny Chapman (Ashlands Vets and VetPartners Central team), Anna Saul (Aireworth Vets), Megan Ackerley (Minster Vets), Gail Bagshaw-Wright (Woodcroft Vets) and Zoe Campbell (Grange Vets).
