As part of our new award series which offers our practices the chance to highlight clients who are excelling in sustainability, animal health, and reducing environmental impact, we’re delighted to announce Jamie’s Farm as the winner of the Sustainable Farming Environmental Impact Award.
Recognising leadership in sustainable farming
This award acknowledges farmers leading the way in biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, emissions reduction, and sustainable land management.
It is one of four awards VetPartners has launched in 2025 to highlight the important work being done by our farm clients to balance animal health with business or environmental sustainability.
Jamie’s Farm stood out for its commitment to improving soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing the carbon footprint of its 300-acre enterprise.
Located near Bath, Jamie’s Farm is home to a 45-cow pedigree herd of Aberdeen-Angus, a 400-head flock of primarily Lleyn ewes, and various other livestock, including laying hens, milking cows, and horses.
A farm with a purpose
The Bath farm is one of six farms in the Jamie’s Farm group. The organisation provides invaluable hands-on farming experience for young people facing challenges, helping them maximise their potential and offering insight into sustainable farming practices.
Jamie Feilden, co-chief executive and co-founder of Jamie’s Farm, said they introduced a low-input, forage-based system to enhance sustainability and profitability, adding:
“The farm now has a strong sense of duty to improve soil health, biodiversity, and environmental resilience and is committed to sustainable farming that works in harmony with nature.”
Demonstrating the power of collaboration between vets and farms, farm vet Dewi Jones, from Avon Farm Vets, nominated Jamie’s Farm for the award and praised the charity for its impact on both the young people it supports and the farm’s environmental practices.
“The improvement to children’s lives and the farming environment deserves recognition,” Dewi said.
Other noteworthy farms
The runner-up for the Environmental Impact Award was Clairval Organic Dairy Farm in Jersey, run by mother and daughter team, Gaynor and Zoë Marshall.
Clairval is one of only two organic dairy farms on the island, and its focus on wildlife conservation alongside sustainable farming is ensuring the farm’s future for generations to come. Ralph Maalouf, from New Era Vets, nominated the Marshalls and described them as inspiring.
Since taking on the farm in 2022, Gaynor and Zoë have collaborated closely with their vets to develop their organic farming methods, significantly reducing their environmental impact.
Mark and Louise Day of New Sheepfold Farm which produces high-quality grass-fed beef and lamb on the North York Moors, received the highly commended accolade. The farm was nominated by Dawn Bowness at Clevedale Vets in recognition of the Days’ work to introduce more habitats to increase biodiversity and their ethos that the future of feeding the nation is reliant on working with nature.
Praising the environmental champions
VetPartners farm director, Ian Cure, commended all the shortlisted farms for their contributions to sustainable farming.
“The impressive work done by farmers across the country to improve animal health, welfare, and the environment deserves recognition,” Ian said.
He added: “These awards highlight the outstanding achievements in the farming community.”
