Team from Mimram Vets to undertake daring skydive for charity

TWO members of the Welwyn-based Mimram Vets team will undertake a daring skydive to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Practice manager Alexandra Spelzini and receptionist Tracey Peverall will be jumping from a height of 10,000ft to raise £2,000 for the charity that trains dogs to transform the lives of deaf people.

The bold duo will be swapping pets for planes at Chiltern Park Aerodrome in Oxfordshire on Saturday 27th July.

Alexandra said: “I have wanted to do something special to raise money for charity for a while and a skydive looks really exciting, if a little terrifying.

“I’ve flown in a small plane before in Australia, but this will be a different experience all together.

“I am pleased that Tracey will be doing the skydive too and we hope to raise lots of money for this worthy charity.”

Hearing Dogs for the Deaf is the chosen charity of the year for VetPartners, the wider veterinary group that Mimram Vets is part of.

The charity trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds, such as fire alarms, intruder alarms, oven timers and baby monitors. The charity’s dogs also provide constant emotional support and companionship, which is important as deaf people can often struggle with feelings of isolation and loneliness. Two members of the Mimram Veterinary Centre team who are to do a skydive for charity

Receptionist Tracey Peverall, who has worked at Mimram Vets for two years, said: “Some of my relative foster dogs for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf so I know what superb work the charity does.

“I had considered doing a skydive before, but my father talked me out of it. Sadly, he is not around anymore, so I’m only going to have myself to blame.

“I would be lying if I said I wasn’t really nervous about doing the jump as I am not great with heights, so I am trying to focus on raising the money for this fantastic charity, and deal with the jump on the day.”

To practice, the Mimram Vets team had a team day out to an indoor skydive centre.
