VETPARTNERS has appointed Jonathan Power as Managing Director for the UK.
Jonathan brings vast experience of healthcare, pharmacy and people-focused businesses to the new position.
He will lead UK operations and VetPartners’ vision to be the veterinary group of choice.
The appointment will ensure there is adequate focus and support for the UK and enable CEO Jo Malone to focus on the whole VetPartners group which has veterinary practices and associated animal healthcare businesses across France, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Ireland and the UK.
Jonathan said: “Everyone at VetPartners is passionate about having the right culture, and that is something that has always been important to me. I believe the right way to build a sustainable and successful business is by looking after people, patients and clients, as well as the planet.
“There is a strong sense of purpose as we want to provide outstanding care for patients, an excellent experience for clients and be a great place to work. People’s views and voices are heard, and I want to ensure that continues even though we are a large business.
“I’m new to the veterinary sector and I’m looking forward to supporting our clinicians. VetPartners has a huge amount of talent and experience in that area, and I hope to complement that by bringing something different. I plan to visit practices and understand the challenges faced by clinicians and learn about how they work with clients and patients.”
People-focused culture
VetPartners was established by Jo, a small animal vet, in October 2015 as a safe home for veterinary practices and their people. From three founding practices, it now employs more than 12,000 people working across 850 sites in the UK and Europe.
Jo said: “Jonathan brings an exceptional blend of business experience which we have taken time to find. His background in healthcare is helpful, and a people-focused outlook fits well with our culture. His leadership will be instrumental in helping the business to continue to develop sustainably and ensure that we continue to focus on being a great place to work.”
Newcastle-born Jonathan began his working life with Nestlé working across various aspects of the business, including accountancy, IT and project management. He has also worked for global brands, such as Iron Mountain and Wolverine Worldwide, before moving into the healthcare and pharmacy sector.
He co-founded and was CEO of Avicenna Pharmacy, one of the biggest pharmacy chains in the UK, with turnover of £190m and 1500 employees across 140 locations.
Jonathan is based in Guiseley, near Leeds, where he lives with his wife Bethan and their children, Elis, nine, Cai, six and three-year-old Osian, plus two cats and three chickens. Outside of work, he is a keen fell runner, who also enjoys cycling, climbing and caving.
