LEGEND says they have nine lives – and veterinary nurse Maria Graham aims to ensure West Yorkshire’s cats live healthy, happy ones.

Maria’s passion for improving the care of cats has seen her achieve her certificate in Feline Nursing from the International Society for Feline Medicine (ISFM).

A veterinary nurse for 15 years, Maria, who works at Chantry Vets in Alverthorpe, Wakefield, passed her course with merit.

She now wants to educate cat owners on how to improve the health and welfare of their pets by sharing behavioural, nutritional and therapeutic advice.

Maria said: “I was really keen to study for my Feline Nursing certificate as I am passionate about creating gold standard care for our feline patients.

“Cats are very special, loving pets but their complex behaviour is very different to dogs and they need to be handled and cared for differently.

“One of my roles at Chantry Vets is looking at how cats are treated in practice. It is about minimising patient stress and keeping them calm and relaxed when they are brought in for treatment or routine healthcare.”

ISFM works with the veterinary profession across the world to provide information for the veterinary care of cats, and is recognised and respected for the standards it aspires to.
